We are focused on supporting and encouraging educational effectiveness for faculty, fellows, residents, students, and alumni. In addition, we coordinate and facilitate the educational efforts within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology by cultivating an environment of shared expertise and faculty development.

The leadership and team are comprised of a diverse group of people and include representatives from the clerkship, fellowships, and residency programs. We are committed, as part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion, to create an equitable and inclusive campus climate, recruit, retain, and develop a diverse community, and support innovative and inclusive scholarship and teaching.

Our Work

Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One

Led by Principal Investigator, Maya Hammoud, MD, MBA, Transforming the UME to GME Transition: Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One project aims to optimize the match process for both residents and programs and ensure that incoming first-year residents have the medical knowledge, skills, and support they need to succeed during residency and beyond. Check out our latest research.

Clinical Simulations

We run surgical simulations for obstetrics and gynecology to bring together learners at every level with a robust program that provides authentic experiences aimed at improving communication and skills to improve patient outcomes. This includes post-partum hemorrhage, C-section, sepsis, should dystocia, and more. Our goal is to demonstrate correct technique and performance of key responsibilities and to practice teamwork and communication for simulated cases. In addition, we aim to explain the importance of civility and learn teaching techniques, in high-stress clinical situations. Simulations involve faculty, residents, students, nurses, clerks, and fellows.

Surgical Curriculum

The Center for Education is currently building a surgical curriculum for all learners. This will be a central repository for surgical videos and relevant information, including preoperative, operative, and post-operative skills.

Medical Education Research & Product Development

The Center for Education supports faculty, student, and inter-professional education research, grants, and teaching and technology product development. Two of our recent projects include ObGyn Delivered (follow us on Twitter), a student-led medical education tool, and Second Look, an electronic fetal monitoring app.
