How to Apply

The University of Michigan Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology accepts applications only from ERAS (the Electronic Residency Application Service from the Association of American Medical Colleges). You can contact the Dean's office at the U-M Medical School or your medical school for more information about ERAS, or visit Residency Application Requirements (all transmitted by ERAS):

  1. Completed ERAS Application
  2. Three letters of recommendation (not including the Dean's letter). One of the three letters should be from the chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology of your medical school.
  3. Personal Statement
  4. Medical School Transcript
  5. USMLE score > 220 is suggested and number of attempts (1)

International Medical Graduates

Here are the answers to frequently asked questions by graduates of international medical schools for applying to the residency program at the University of Michigan:

  2. U.S. clinical experience is not a requirement
  3. Our deadline for application consideration is November 1. However, interested students are strongly encouraged to have their application complete by October 1.
  4. ECFMG certification at time of application is required (by November 1st). Please review the ECFMG requirements
  5. We sponsor only J-1 visas.
  6. We do not offer pre-match
  7. We accept applications only through ERAS
  8. Applicant must have graduated from medical school within 2 years

2018 Match and Application Review

We will begin reviewing applications on September 15, 2017, with the deadline for applications being November 1, 2017. Applications received between October 1 and October 31 will be reviewed and considered for waitlist status only. We review applications when they contain at least the following

  • MyERAS common application
  • Personal statement
  • CV (generated through ERAS)
  • USMLE Step I
  • Medical school transcripts
  • 1 letter of recommendation, preferably from an ObGyn (3 letters total by November 1)

NOTE - When listing publications, please make sure to include the PMID number.

Invitations to interview extended. If you wish to have your application reviewed for consideration, the above mentioned application components must be received by start of business, October 1.

October 1 - November 1:
Applications received or completed during the month of October will be reviewed and considered for waitlist status only.
