UH South Wellness Center Open Houses Postponed

Overwhelming demand during first open house

Due to overwhelming demand during the first open house event, MHealthy is working on an alternative way to register Michigan Medicine faculty and staff for a UH South Wellness Center membership. Therefore, all previously scheduled open house events have been canceled, until the details of a new plan are finalized. Please look for further communications in the coming days.

MHealthy staff are working on the details of implementing a lottery process to distribute memberships, given the level of interest in the UH South Wellness Center. More information will be posted on the UH South Wellness Center website when available and communicated through multiple channels.

“The response to this facility has been amazing, and we want to make the registration process as fair and efficient as possible,” said LaVaughn Palma-Davis, senior director, Health & WellBeing Services. “Distributing memberships through a lottery process will give all Michigan Medicine employees an equal opportunity to purchase memberships, regardless of shift or work schedule.”

The facility, which is scheduled to open next month, is located on the 8th floor of UH South and will be available to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The center will feature state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, shower and restroom facilities, space for group exercise and relaxation classes, on-site health and wellbeing programs, and more.

MHealthy, the university’s health and wellbeing service, will manage day-to-day operations.

Memberships will be available to active, full- and part-time regular Michigan Medicine employees for only $10 per month, with the first month free. The monthly fee will help to cover the wellness center’s ongoing maintenance and operational expenses. There are no contract or enrollment fees.

At the start, 1,200 memberships will be available, with regular reviews of facility usage to determine if additional memberships can be offered.

Michigan Medicine faculty and staff also have access to the wellness center at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC), which offers similar services at the same monthly fee.
