Aseptic Technique in the Office Setting

Course Description

This lecture will include an overview of aseptic technique: what it is and why we do it along with the methods for performing in an office setting. Upon completion of the course, attendees should be able to relate why aseptic technique is performed. They will be able to give examples of when sterile items (instruments and packaging) should not be used; examples of compromised sterile package. Attendees will be able to explain the concept of “same to same”, “sterile to sterile” and “non-sterile to non-sterile”. Attendees will relate why oxygen should be turned off and betadine should be completely dry before using cautery. The lecture will demonstrate how sterile objects should be opened on a sterile field.

This course has been submitted to JCAHPO for consideration of CE credit.
