Program Mission & Aims

Our program aims are guided by the six core competencies and overriding mission of the program.

Mission Statement:

To provide comprehensive clinical and research training that will prepare our graduates to deliver compassionate pediatric rheumatology care of the highest quality to children in Michigan and the world.

Patient Care
Goal: Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of rheumatologic diseases in children.

Medical Knowledge
Goal: Demonstrate and utilize knowledge about established and evolving basic, translational, and clinical science as relates to pediatric rheumatologic diseases.

Professionalism
Goals: (1) Exhibit cultural awareness and humility in interactions with a diverse population of patients and colleagues. (2) Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities in an ethical manner.

Systems-based Practice
Goals: Develop the ability to call on resources to provide pediatric rheumatology care of optimal value within the context of medical system limitations (ie, insurance barriers, limitations in supplies/personnel).
