Ranjit Aiyagari M.D. Appointed CMIO

Dr. Ranjit Aiyagari has been appointed Chief Medical Information Officer for Michigan Medicine effective July 1, 2017

In this position Dr. Aiyagari will lead the Office of Clinical Informatics.  Dr. Aiyagari served as the interim CMIO since February, 2016.  He excelled in this role and provided key institutional leadership over the MiChart stage 4 project, our TJC recertification, and numerous patient-centric initiatives including Break the Glass and Open Notes. The Office of Clinical Informatics has partnered closely with the Office of Clinical Affairs, the University of Michigan Medical Group, the House Officer Association, and Health Information Technology Services to insure that quality and safety are maximized through our electronic health systems, to improve the availability and usability of these systems, to continue to make data available to clinicians, and to enable providers to engage patients both near and far.

As the CMIO, Dr. Aiyagari will continue to provide critical leadership and institutional direction over health information exchange (including creating connections to share information seamlessly with Metro Health and Mid-Michigan Health), clinical decision support, and analytics, spanning the continuum from pediatric to adult and inpatient to ambulatory care.

Dr. Aiyagari earned his undergraduate degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard University.  He received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco.  He completed his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Michigan in 2005 and is board certified in both pediatric cardiology and clinical informatics.  He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.

The Department of Pediatrics congratulates Dr. Aiyagari on his new role.
