Dr. Edward Bove Selected for the Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Edward Bove, Helen F. and Marvin M. Kirsh Professor of Cardiac Surgery and Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases, will be presented with the 2018 Michigan Medicine Alumni Society Distinguished Alumnus Achievement Award this October. This award honors U-M Medical School alumni who have typified the Michigan tradition of excellence and have brought credit to the university by their person-al accomplishments and recognizes significant contributions in the science and art of medicine.

Dr. Bove (Residency 1976), has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and service throughout his career. In 2012, he became the inaugural chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, stepping down from the position earlier this year. Under his leader-ship, he elevated cardiac surgery from a division to a department, and facilitated substantial growth in all clinical areas. He also launched robust research programs in stem cell and outcomes research, and established an inte-grated six-year residency program. Bove’s work pioneering heart surgery for children with congenital heart dis-ease has increased the departments recognition both nationally and internationally. Congratulations, Dr. Bove!
