Areas of Interest

Dr. Lorberbaum's research program at the University of Michigan will focus on his postdoctoral work, in which he demonstrated a novel intersection between retinoic acid (RA) signaling and GATA transcription factors during pancreas development in mice and humans. His immediate goals will be to (1) fully define the synergy between RA/GATA during pancreatic endocrine specification and function; (2) elucidate the mechanisms by which this interaction occurs during development and diseases such as diabetes and pancreas agenesis; and (3) evaluate how RA signaling alone contributes to pancreatic endocrine formation and function. His lab will be funded by a prestigious R00 award.
