Congratulations to Paul Hollenberg!

After a long and successful career as an educator, scientist and administrator, Dr. Paul Hollenberg retired from active faculty status at the University of Michigan and became an active Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology effective May 31, 2016.

 

 

Dr. Hollenberg obtained a B.S. from Wittenberg University in 1964, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1969 under the mentorship of Dr. Jud Coon. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in the laboratory of Dr. Lowell Hager. He then took a position as an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in 1972 and was promoted to Professor in 1984. In 1987, Dr. Hollenberg was appointed as the Chair of the Department of Pharmacology at Wayne State University until 1994, when he became the Maurice H. Seevers Collegiate Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School, and served in this capacity for more than 20 years. Dr. Hollenberg has mentored more than 50 Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scientists.

Dr. Hollenberg will continue to be active in the department and in the school. He will also continue his administrative, national service, and consulting activities. At the same time, he is also looking forward to spending more time with family, mastering the art of fly fishing, and playing more golf.

Dr. Hollenberg has contributed more than 45 years in academia, and his achievements will not be forgotten. We wish him the very best in the next steps of his journey.
