Dr. Irene Glowinski receives the 2021 Outstanding Alumna Award from Michigan Pharmacology

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Irene Glowinski on her receipt of the 2021 Outstanding Alumna Award from Michigan Pharmacology. Dr. Glowinski has dedicated her career to scientific service and administration. As Deputy Director of the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, one of 3 extramural divisions at NIAID/NIH, Dr. Glowinski managed a complex national and international research program in infectious diseases by supporting basic, pre-clinical and clinical investigations into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a broad range of pathogens including those related to biodefense, and emerging diseases such as pandemic influenza. She managed the Division's annual research budget of approximately $1.5 billion, with a research portfolio that included over 1,000 projects, and approximately 200 staff members. Dr. Glowinski shared full responsibility with the Division Director for strategic planning and managing, developing, coordinating and evaluating DMID's portfolio.
