As part of the world-class University of Michigan Health System, the Department of Pharmacy Services has high standards for service, education, and research. The Health System and the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy are both ranked in the top tier of institutions nationwide, and our residency program is ASHP award-winning. All of our residency programs are accredited by ASHP. 

At UMHS, you will have the opportunity to learn from some of the leading practitioners in the world. UMHS integrates the outstanding services of University Hospital (a Level I trauma center), C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital, and an ambulatory care network that provides an annual total of nearly 1.7 million patient visits. The residency program at the University of Michigan has a rich history, being one of the first accredited pharmacy residency training programs in the nation. We continue this legacy by providing residency programs which strive to provide each resident the opportunity to develop practice skills, expand his/her knowledge, and gain experience in an environment that promotes excellence and innovation.

• We have over 150 dedicated preceptors with several specialty areas, from pain and palliative care to pharmacogenetics to pediatric oncology. Residents get to make their own schedule at Michigan, providing flexibility with changing interests.
• A Residency Wellness Program, which focuses on skills to provide learners resiliency, stress management, and support. This Wellness Program comes with dedicated "Wellness Days" to focus on your wellbeing.  
• 2 opportunities to publish: Across programs, residents must complete a research and writing/quality improvement project, which results in a CE-presentation and 2 manuscripts for publication.
• Professional development series: Residents attend a longitudinal series with research faculty and chief pharmacy officers to help improve their research and leadership skills
• Opportunities in leadership: All residents are involved in committees, both local/state/national along with resident-driven committees. There's also opportunity to become a chief resident and work closely with the residency coordinator and advisory committee
• Formalized mentorship structure: Each resident gets an assigned advisor (RPD for PGY2 residents) plus a "chosen mentor" to help them through the residency year. This network of preceptors meet regularly with the residents on their progress and provide support.
• Integration at the College of Pharmacy: All residents receive adjunct faculty appointments and are assigned to an entire course to teach at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. There are several additional opportunities for teaching, including our optional teaching certificate program
• Networking: Due to our diverse preceptor roster, our residents benefit from networking opportunities for future residencies and positions
