Biography

Dr. Chan Gao earned his medical degree from Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing, China, and his PhD in regenerative medicine from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2019, followed by a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Interventional Spine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2020. He holds certifications from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In 2020, Dr. Gao joined McGill University and the McGill University Health Center as a physician-scientist. His clinical practice focuses on managing chronic musculoskeletal and spine conditions, with expertise in fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures. His research explores the neural regulation of bone homeostasis, particularly the pathogenic mechanisms of neurogenic heterotopic ossification (HO) following spinal cord injury (SCI). He has developed clinically relevant animal models to simulate polytrauma with SCI, aiming to identify biomarkers for early diagnosis and prophylaxis, as well as molecular targets for effective therapy.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gao has authored more than 30 publications and has been invited to present at multiple national and international conferences, contributing to advancements in the pathogenesis and treatment of bone diseases commonly encountered in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
