Biography

Dr. Jonathan P. Etter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Michigan Medicine. After the conclusion of his undergraduate studies, he attained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Medicinal Chemistry) prior to attending medical school. He then completed his residency in PM&R, followed by fellowships in both Sports Medicine and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine.

From a Sports Medicine perspective, Dr. Etter specializes in the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal conditions, including those related to sports injuries, as well as bone, joint, tendon, ligament, and peripheral nerve injuries and conditions. He also specializes in the management of SCI-related issues, including spasticity, neurogenic bowel, neurogenic bladder, neuropathic pain, and physical functioning. He has particular interests in strength, combat, endurance and adaptive sports athletes, ultrasound-guided injections and interventions, sports nutrition and performance, preventative medicine, and regenerative medicine.

 Outside of clinic, Dr. Etter enjoys spending time with his wife and their four sons, training in strength (strongman, powerlifting) and combat (submission grappling, kickboxing) sports, and playing chess.
