According to the Association of Academic Physiatrists' website, "The Program for Academic Leadership (PAL) is a three-year program to develop academic leadership skills in junior PM&R faculty. PAL offers a valuable combination of education and one-on-one mentoring that can help propel participants to success in an academic setting.Led by William L. Bockenek, MD, CPE, the goal of PAL is to provide a basic administrative framework and skill set to promising physiatric academic faculty to enhance their leadership abilities within a Department, Medical School, and the field of PM&R at large. The number of participants will be limited to provide maximum interaction with course instructors."

About the program. Dr. Smith said, "The PAL program was an eye-opening, singular experience that has already made me a better physician and leader. I'm already a better physician and leader for having completed it. Through the program, I formed bonds with mentors and colleagues, and am thrilled to add my name to the list of other Michigan Medicine PM&R graduates of the program."

Congratulations to Dr. Smith.
