Shervin Assari elected president of the Scientific Association for Public Health in Iran

Shervin Assari, M.D., M.P.H., a research investigator in the Prechter team as well as in the U-M School of Public Health Center for Research on Ethnicity, Culture and Health (CRECH) has been elected president of the Scientific Association for Public Health in Iran (SAPHIR), a membership-based organization whose mission is to generate and disseminate public health knowledge regarding Iran.

As the president of SAPHIR, Dr. Assari will work closely with other officers and board members of the organization to set the policies and oversee all the procedures of the organization. SAPHIR is involved with training of faculty members of medical universities and schools of public health at a national level, a collaboration between SAPHIR and the Ministry of Health of Iran (MoHME). SAPHIR is also involved with reviewing grants submitted to Iran's Ministry of Health (Iranian NIH).

SAPHIR is a non-profit organization. SAPHIR officers and board members are mostly faculty members in the U.S. and U.K., who want to serve their country of origin and promote Iran's public health.
