Brain Training: The Current Evidence and the Challenges Ahead

This presentation will focus on a scientific overview of cognitive training for people with mental health conditions, current limitations, and where the research is headed.

Presenter:

Cynthia Burton is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan and current NAMI Unger Fellow. She completed her training at the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology and the Ann Arbor VA before joining the Department of Psychiatry at U-M. Her research focuses on cognitive remediation for people diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, including skills training as well as computerized approaches and brain stimulation. Her clinical background is in neuropsychological evaluation for adults and cognitive behavioral therapy for people experiencing psychosis. “Brain Training” has exploded in popularity. But what do we know about how effective these treatments are?

The University of Michigan’s Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program will be present with an informational materials table.
