Brendan Sedivy

ABCD Research Team

What is your name? Where were you born? Where did you go to college?

My name is Brendan, and I was born in Chicago, IL. I recently graduated from Elon University in North Carolina and received my BA in Human Service studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I’m currently in my final year of the Master’s in Social Work (MSW) program at the University of Michigan. GO BLUE!

What interests you about the ABCD Study/research?

Working with children and adolescents is a continued passion of mine, and having the opportunity to work with youth on the largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States has been a dream! The ABCD Study Research Team makes up the most loving group of people who motivate me every day.

How long have you worked in the department and what does your work focus on / what area do you work in?

I’ve worked in the department for a few months now, conducting interviews with participants, administering cognitive batteries and surveys, collecting biological specimens, and administering functional MRI tasks to study participants.

What are your plans after ABCD (grad school, etc.)?

My next goal is to work as a child mental health therapist in private practice. I admire one on one therapeutic practice on the micro level!

Fun fact about yourself! What are your hobbies?

One fun fact about myself includes being a twin to my lovely sister! Another fun fact about me is that I had the privilege of studying abroad in Alicante, Spain, and had the excellent opportunity of living with a host family. My hobbies include any Chicago sports team, being silly, and listening to New Music Friday every Thursday at midnight.

Do you have any pets?

OH, yes. A dog named Teddy and a cat named Paul they’re best friends.

What’s your favorite food or restaurant?

I love McDonald's 20-piece chicken nugget meal dipped in honey mustard. 10/10 recommend.
