Position Overview

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time clinical-track faculty member to work in the Hospital Services Section. Primary clinical responsibilities will include direct patient evaluations/consultations and follow-up visits as a member of the Consultation-Liaison Inpatient Team. Provision of clinical care will include general hospital patients and also those specific to solid organ transplant (heart, lung, liver, kidney). This position is intended to expand our adult inpatient services to include more psychological evaluation, evidence-based integrative psychotherapy, treatment planning services, and empirically supported care to address behavioral determinants of health.

The successful candidate will participate in the clinical, administrative, and teaching aspects in Psychiatry Hospital Services. In addition, candidates will participate in both transplant and CL clinical conference meetings and consult with various members of multidisciplinary medical teams.

Superior clinical competencies and master teacher skills are necessary to be successful in this position. Because of the increasing medical complexity of patients throughout the hospital, a familiarity and comfort with medical issues is necessary. The ability to communicate effectively with professionals in multiple disciplines and to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment promoting compassion under stressful circumstances is essential. Interest and experience working with solid organ transplant populations is preferred but not required.

Academic interests are encouraged. For those interested in research, the Department of Psychiatry and affiliated institutes at the University of Michigan provide state-of-the-art research facilities.
