Jeffrey Bohnen, MD

Resident
Class of 2028
University of Michigan Medical School

Biography

I was born in Minnesota after my parents immigrated from the Netherlands, then moved around a lot before coming to the University of Michigan to study psychology and music. Although I spent a gap year in California studying neurofeedback and substance use disorders, my love affair with Ann Arbor continued during medical school. After getting plenty of sleep during core clerkships, I discovered my passion for clinical research and completed a dual degree in business administration given my interest in entrepreneurship, systems-level practices, and advocacy. I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay at Michigan for residency and continue my research here via the Psychiatry Research Track. I was drawn to this program because of its exceptional faculty and mentorship opportunities, research infrastructure, and culture of support and compassion. In addition, the program is highly accommodating of trainee interests and supportive of your goals, whether that be pursuing research, creating a specific elective experience, or making connections within the career path you envision. Outside the hospital, you can find me making music, cooking, lifting weights, or cleansing my soul in hot yoga.
