Michelle Allison, M.D.

Chief Resident
Class of 2022
University of Illinois at Chicago

Hi everyone! My name is Michelle and I am a third year resident. I am a native Michigander and went to college here at the University of Michigan where I majored in psychology and anthropology. After undergrad, I spent some time doing psychology research at Michigan. Afterwards, I went to medical school at UIC and I'm so happy to be back at the U for residency. GO BLUE!

I am excited you are considering U of M for your psychiatry residency. Let me tell you why I chose the University of Michigan for my residency. Obviously, number 1 is because I am from Michigan and wanted to be closer to my family. However, more importantly, Michigan is known as the leaders and best and I wanted to surround myself with those individuals. I knew I would receive top notch clinical training at Michigan. When I interviewed with the program, I was amazed by the abundant opportunities Michigan offers in the various areas of psychiatry including emergency psychiatry. I appreciate the fact that we have our own dedicated psychiatric emergency which gives me the chance to hone my clinical decision making skills in that setting. I also wanted a program that was really supportive of their residents both work and family related. Additionally, I really enjoyed meeting the residents and found that they were down to earth and great to talk to. I could really see myself here and thriving.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children. We recently just purchased a home so I have been enjoying decorating and doing home improvements.
