Information for Clinicians

Training in the Youth-Nominated Support Team Program

To become a YST Intervention Specialist

  • Background training and experience
    • licensed mental health professional
    • training and/or experience specific to working with adolescents and families
    • training and/or experience in suicide risk and risk management
  • Review background material on YST (see YST intervention manual and references within)
  • Complete the YST Basics Training Workshop (generally scheduled as a five hour session or two shorter sessions: INSERT Agenda)
  • A supervisor (YST trainer) check-out and certification
  • Participate in consult/supervision sessions on a regular basis

Requirements to become a YST Trainer

  • Complete the YST Basics Training Workshop
  • Experience as a YST Intervention Specialist 
  • Observe a YST Basics Training Workshop as a Trainer in Training
  • Organize and Lead a YST Basics Training Workshop with an experienced YST Trainer present to evaluate and provide personalized feedback
    • Receive adequate training feedback
  • Be endorsed and certified by YST Trainer with recommended adherence targets as follows
    • Provides accurate and clear overview of YST intervention and role of intervention specialist
    • Provide accurate and clear guidance on implementation of YST program in diverse clinical settings with diverse populations
    • Responds to participant questions about program and implementation
    • Management of learning environment
