Awards and Recognition

Annually, the Office of Patient Experience recognizes faculty, staff, patients and families who go above and beyond in improving the patient experience through the Evan Newport HOPE and JOY Awards and the Celeste Castillo Lee Peer Mentoring Award. 

Evan Newport HOPE and JOY Awards

The Evan Newport HOPE and JOY Awards were established to formally recognize the ongoing patient and family centered care practices and initiatives that are happening each day within Michigan Medicine. Read more about Evan Newport and the founding of the HOPE Awards

The HOPE and JOY Awards ceremony will be held during Patient Experience Week. We will not have a ceremony in 2023. Nominations for the awards will be open year around. Next award ceremony will be in April 2024 (date TBD).

 

The Evan Newport HOPE Award

2017 HOPE Team Award winners, the Electroconvulsive Therapy Team in the Psychiatry department.

The Evan Newport HOPE Award honors staff, faculty, students or teams who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to the philosophy of patient and family centered care. The HOPE Award winners are selected annually by the Office of Patient Experience program committees and Michigan Medicine leadership. 

Nominations are now open for 2024.

 

The Evan Newport JOY Award

The Evan Newport JOY Award honors volunteer patient and family advisors who have gone above and beyond to promote and advance patient and family centered care principles throughout Michigan Medicine. The call for 2024 JOY award nominees is now open. 

Celeste Castillo Lee Peer Mentoring Award

To honor Celeste’s contributions and career, the Celeste Castillo Lee Peer Mentoring Award will be awarded annually to a volunteer peer mentor at Michigan Medicine. The Office of Patient Experience has also established a fund in her name to further develop the peer mentoring program and other OPE initiatives. The call for 2024 nominations is now open.
