Anna Michmerhuizen

PhD candidate in the UM Cellular and Molecular Biology program

Anna Michmerhuizen is a third year PhD candidate in the Cellular and Molecular Biology program. She is also a trainee in the Training Program in Translational Research. Before starting in the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) in 2017, Anna graduated with honors from Calvin College with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Public Health. As an undergrad, Anna worked on multiple research projects at Calvin, and she was named a Goldwater Scholar in 2016 for the work she did in Dr. Douglas Vander Griend's lab studying the complexation of triazolophane with anions in solution. Anna also took part in a summer undergraduate research fellowship (SURF) program at the Mayo Clinic in 2016. In the Speers lab, Anna is studying the role of hormone receptors in the radiosensitization of breast cancer. When she's not in lab, Anna enjoys running and spending time with family and friends.
