Dr. Ella Kazerooni receives American Roengten Ray Society award

Each year, the society presents its highest honor, the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service to Radiology, to outstanding radiologists and imaging scientists. This year, Dr. Ella A. Kazerooni received the gold medal for her extensive contributions to the ARRS and the field of radiology, as a leader, mentor, scientist, educator and innovator.

Dr. Kazerooni began her service to the ARRS as a member of the Scientific Program Committee in 1995, and has served in numerous leadership roles including Chair of the Research, Nominating, Gold Medal Award and Executive Committees, and the Roentgen Fund.

In addition to her contributions to the ARRS, Dr. Kazerooni has served as president of the Association of University Radiologists, the Society of Thoracic Radiology and the Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research, has served on the American College of Radiology’s Board of Chancellors, and is currently a trustee of the American Board of Radiology and member of the Executive Committee of the Academy of Radiology Research.  She is a recipient of the AUR Gold Medal, the Madame Curie Award from the AAWR, the Early Distinguished Career Award from the U-M Medical School’s Alumni Society and this year also received the inaugural Inspiration Award for Leadership from the STR.

Dr. Kazerooni is a world-renowned authority on cardiopulmonary imaging with nearly 250 peer reviewed publications and has given over 500 invited presentations in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, she has brought together more than 40 professional organizations as head of the ACR’s efforts on lung cancer screening with CT to work toward providing universal coverage for this life-saving measure.

At U-M, Dr. Kazerooni is currently a professor of radiology, serves at the associate chair for Clinical Affairs, director of Cardiothoracic Radiology, and chair of the Service Excellence Program for the Department of Radiology. She serves on numerous enterprise-wide committees including the FGP Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the Clinical Capital Committee, E-Health Executive Committee, the Ambulatory Care Operations Committee, Epic Physician Advisory Committee and Michigan Healthcare Corporation Management Committee, and the Hospital-Medical Group planning and implementation task forces.

Founded in 1900, the ARRS is the first and oldest radiological society in the U.S.
