Clerkships
Radiation Oncology immersive for UM and visiting medical students

The Department of Radiation Oncology welcomes rotating senior medical students for an immersive, 4-week long elective in which students will be exposed to the exciting spectrum of the specialty of radiation oncology. Students will have an opportunity to work closely with faculty and residents in a variety of disease sites and typically see 1-3 new consults per day. In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend tumor boards, didactic conferences, learn and participate in aspects of treatment planning, and participate as integral members of the treatment team. This experience will provide a wonderful introduction to the field and enrich the perspective of students interested in applying to a residency in radiation oncology.

Additional resources for visiting students may be found at the University of Michigan Medical School.

UM medical students

For University of Michigan medical students, we offer additional 4-week exploratory electives for students with minimal prior exposure to radiation oncology who wish to gain a better understanding of the field. Students will spend time in the clinic seeing a wide variety of patients. They will also be exposed to the varied aspects of the practice including simulation, treatment planning and treatment delivery. Other exciting multi-disciplinary electives are available for students with a particular interest in neuro-oncology, coordinated between radiation oncology, neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, neuroradiology and neuropathology, or for students who wish to gain a first-hand exposure to the integrated, multidisciplinary nature of cancer care.
