Don Tomford addresses well wishers at his retirement celebration

A retirement reception was held for Don Tomford, Radiation Oncology’s Chief Department Administrator. Don has worked at Michigan Medicine for over 35 years in various roles throughout the institution. He started as a housekeeping supervisor, moved to hospital finance, was a long serving Chief Department Administrator in Neurosurgery, and has been the CDA in Radiation Oncology for three and a half years. Through all these years Don’s dedication to and appreciation of the people he has worked with across the entire department and medical center has been a hallmark of his leadership. Don has always put supporting patient care at the top of his agenda while facilitating our other important missions of education and research. Don is not really retiring. He’s heading to an exciting opportunity to consult with a neurosurgery program in Kansas City that is expanding and establishing a new residency program. Don will always be part of the U-M Radiation Oncology family and a friend to all of us. We thank Don for his accomplishments with us and send him with wishes for great success in the next step in his productive career.
