Alumni Testimony: Oanh Nguyen DO

My name is Oanh Nguyen. I am a board certified general neurologist with sub-specialty in sleep medicine. I am a proud alumni and completed my Sleep Medicine Fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2014. I have been a proud Wolverine for many years, as I also completed my undergraduate degree at U of M in 2004. Born and raised in Michigan, I have a deep love for The Mitten State. Since our move in 2014, my family and I have also fallen in love with the Pacific NW, surrounded by the beautiful ocean and mountains.

Currently, I work in a community hospital based practice in Tacoma, Washington – south of Seattle. I practice both general neurology and sleep medicine, which I find very rewarding. I am the medical director of our local sleep lab. I feel my knowledge in sleep medicine has provided a distinct benefit in caring for my patients with neurological disorders, including dementia, MS, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, TBI and migraines. I feel very fortunate to provide this added level of care, as sleep issues are often overlooked. Helping a patient finally acquire quality sleep is extremely gratifying.

My U of M Sleep Fellowship was an extremely positive experience. This reputable program provided me with outstanding training in the field of sleep medicine. The sleep medicine education I received at U of M was extremely comprehensive and provided me with the confidence and expertise to practice high quality sleep medicine. Additionally, the fellowship provided me with lifelong colleagues and a strong sense of community. I look forward to annual SLEEP conferences to re-connect with friends and reminisce about this wonderful experience. I am grateful for this educational opportunity and would strongly recommend this program to anyone striving for excellence in the field of sleep. GO BLUE!
