On October 11, 2019 the Department of Surgery, Center for Global Surgery will host its 3rd annual Global Surgery Symposium.  The mission of the Michigan Center for Global Surgery seeks to provide financial support to facilitate resident and faculty involvement in research-focus solutions for major global health problems.  The Center also seek to reduce barriers of access to basic surgical care globally through education, innovation research and advocacy.

In this vein, the symposium this year will bring together medical professionals from around the country to share their expertise’s on topics ranging from teaching global surgery; training surgeons for global citizenship: The Ohio State experience and strengthening global surgical capacity: Partnerships and tools for success…just to name a few.

Guided by the concept of “convergence science,” we feel a strong sense of urgency to build partnerships internationally that will introduce surgeons and surgical residents to new knowledge and approaches…because big leaps come from new settings and ideas.
