Learning from our past to advocate for our future

The Michigan Women’s Surgical Collaborative has focused on identifying barriers to advancing women in surgery and removing these barriers to change the face of the field. Our past conferences have focused on “Becoming Who You Want To Be,” “Leading From Your Best Self” and “Creating an Impact And Shaping the Future.”

Now we’re turning our attention to activism to advance women individually and collectively in the field of surgery and in surgery leadership. Specifically, we want to learn from our past to advocate for our future.

Elizabeth Lesser’s book, "Cassandra Speaks: When Women are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes", is a perfect launch pad for that conversation and we’re thrilled to host a virtual brunch with Lesser.

"Cassandra Speaks" examines how our culture is shaped by the stories men tell, and how those stories persist despite us having outgrown so many of them. How would things be different if women were the storytellers? What can we do to balance the scales?

Join us for an interactive discussion of the book with Lesser!

The first 100 registrants who sign up before 9/14/21 will receive a free copy of the book and be guaranteed a spot in breakout rooms following Lesser’s talk to discuss how to put ideas into action. (We will share addresses of registrants who request books with the book vendor for shipping.)
