Biography

Dr. O’Brien is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and an Associate Professor (Research) in the Sleep Disorders Center, Department of Neurology. She received her BSc from the University of Leeds, UK and her PhD from Keele University, UK. She completed a maternal and infant health postdoctoral position in the United Kingdom before relocating to the United States for a fellowship in pediatric sleep research at the University of Louisville. Her research interests include sleep disordered breathing and neurobehavioral outcomes in children including those with craniofacial syndromes and cleft palate. Dr. O’Brien’s research also focuses on the impact of sleep disorders during pregnancy on both maternal and infant health. She participates in the training of sleep medicine fellows and acts as a mentor for students interested in sleep research.
