The honor was established this year to celebrate faculty who have a passion for teaching, and who consistently share their extensive knowledge whether in the classroom, laboratory or bedside — a group committed to preparing the next generation of physicians and scientists.
The induction ceremony was held January 23 in the Gilbert S. Omenn Atrium of the A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Science Research Building. Many of the members of the first League class have previously been lauded for their teaching as recipients of the Kaiser-Permanente Awards for Excellence in Teaching, or the Lifetime Achievement Award in Medical Education through the Dean’s Awards Program; department chairs nominated other recipients. All inductees received a special medallion commemorating their membership.
The Department of Surgery honorees are: Vincent M. Cimmino, M.D.; Michael J. Englesbe, M.D.; Paul G. Gauger, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.C.E.; Steven J. Kasten, M.D.; Rebecca M. Minter, M.D.; and Mark B. Orringer, M.D.
