Director of Plastic Surgery Network Named, Presence in Michigan’s Capital Region Grows

Andrew Zwyghuizen, M.D., has been named director of the plastic surgery community network for University of Michigan Health.

In his role, Dr. Zwyghuizen will cultivate our collaborations with affiliate hospitals throughout Michigan.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Dr. Zwyghuizen become the executive director of the U-M Health plastic surgery community network. With his vast experience in leadership and many years of providing kind and compassionate care to the patients in Mid-Michigan, he is ideally suited to assume this responsibility and important leadership role. In this capacity, he will help to enhance and grow our statewide network ensuring that patients across the state will receive the highest quality care in their local communities. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome him back to our Michigan plastic surgery family,” said Paul S. Cederna, M.D., Robert Oneal Collegiate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Michigan Medicine, and professor of biomedical engineering at U-M. Cederna is also the chief of the section of plastic surgery.

Dr. Zwyghuizen went to medical school at Vanderbilt University and completed plastic surgery residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan.

After completing his residency training, Dr. Zwyghuizen joined the faculty of Michigan State University, practicing at Sparrow Health in Lansing.

Now, as a member of the University of Michigan Health team, Dr. Zwyghuizen will work alongside faculty in the plastic surgery section at University of Michigan, and see patients at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, in addition to his responsibilities overseeing U-M Health plastic surgery collaborations around the state.

“It’s an honor to represent U-M Health as we partner with community hospitals across the state to provide high-quality, patient-centered plastic surgical care close to home.  By building a network of highly-trained specialists who live in the communities they serve, we shorten the patient’s journey to recovery and bring the Michigan difference to their doorstep,” Dr. Zwyghuizen said.

U-M Health currently offers plastic surgery at a number of affiliated hospitals around Michigan, including MyMichigan Health in Midland, Sparrow Health in Lansing, Sparrow Health in St. Johns, and our joint venture with Trinity Health at Chelsea Hospital, in addition to our U-M Health locations in Ann Arbor, East Ann Arbor and Brighton.
