Support Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery education, research, clinical care and global outreach efforts make a lasting impact at U-M and around the world. Whether it’s a $10 gift from a patient who wants to support our research in breast reconstruction outcomes, or an alumna interested in creating a professorship opportunity, every donation to the Section of Plastic Surgery makes an impact.

Plastic Surgery Research & Innovation

Today, the Section of Plastic Surgery at the University of Michigan is home to one of the most successful research units in the world. Our faculty and residents are nationally recognized for pioneering clinical and basic science research in areas such as wound healing, peripheral nerve reconstruction, neuromuscular reconstruction, craniofacial bone biology, distraction osteogenesis, and tissue engineering.

Your gift will help us advance these efforts, initiate new lines of research, and further our existing commitment to the care of patients with reconstructive needs resulting from cancer surgery, craniofacial or congenital anomalies, burns, trauma, amputations, and chronic wounds.

Education

Plastic surgery education has always been and will continue to be an area where great attention is placed. Each of our residents is a part of an integrated program that presents a broad experience in both clinical practice and research.

With this knowledge, each plastic surgeon trained at Michigan is equipped with the competence and understanding to best serve each patient.

Our residency program has gained the attention and respect of peer institutions by training residents who present award-winning research at national conferences.

Because our residents are the future of plastic and reconstructive surgery, it’s critical that we support their scholastic and academic development by continuing to fund their participation in research and their attendance at national and international conferences.

A donation to the resident education fund represents an investment in the young minds that will advance the specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Global Outreach

From medical mission trips to resident exchange programs to international partnerships, our work abroad enriches the field of medicine across borders, bringing new knowledge and learning opportunities for Michigan surgeons and their counterparts in other countries.

We want to provide every resident an opportunity for an international travel experience during their training.

Supporting global outreach enables residents to have this vital experience to grow personally and professionally.

Professorships & Lectureships

Your contribution will assist in recruiting outstanding teachers and researchers, benefiting our patients, students and scientific initiatives.

Often this is done through endowed professorships, which can both honor past faculty and protect research time for future faculty. Private donors can have a significant impact on a school or program by making an endowed gift to a professorship, which results in a prominent and permanent investment in the institution.

Professorships and fellowships can be named for the donor or someone the donor chooses to honor.
