Rotations
Visiting sub-interns join two of our five primary teams (Adult RED, Adult BLUE, Adult SILVER, HAND, or Pediatric/Craniofacial GOLD), spending 2 weeks with each team. This schedule gives you the chance to dig in to a particular service for a couple of weeks, while still getting a diverse experience. You’ll join our care teams at Michigan Medicine's University Hospital.
Schedule
You’ll spend 3 to 4 days per week in the OR and 1 to 2 days per week in clinic, providing an opportunity for some continuity of care along with direct interaction with faculty. Sub-interns also participate in educational conferences throughout the week, with the occasional sub-intern-only teaching session or breakfast.
Evaluation
You’ll receive an individual mid-rotation feedback session and an end-of-rotation feedback session with our faculty coordinator. We can provide a completed sub-internship evaluation form to your home school registrar once your rotation ends.
On-Call
During the 4-week sub-internship, you’ll be on call for one Friday/Sunday weekend shift (until 6 p.m.) and one Saturday weekend shift. Sub-interns do not take call during the week.
You’ll also have two full weekends off during your sub-internship, giving you time to explore Ann Arbor — and maybe catch a football game!
Accommodations
It is very helpful to have a car to get around town, unless you’re staying within walking distance of the University Hospital. Ann Arbor also has a bike-sharing program and several ride-sharing options.
