"Hello and hola! My name is Alondra and I am a second-year Neuroscience PhD student and Bioinformatics master’s student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I am a first-generation college graduate and received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. As an undergraduate, I found that I was interested in behavior, but more specifically, why we behave. This led me to find neuroscience, and eventually at U-M! Our brains like to find patterns in things and those patterns are what lead to new discoveries. One way to streamline this process is by using bioinformatics. For this reason, I chose to pursue a dual degree in Bioinformatics at the end of my first year of grad school. In the future, I hope that I am able to work as a college professor, where I can continue to do what I love most about my academic journey--mentor younger students and talk to them about how to get where they want."
