Hanna Berlin is an M1 from Farmington Hills, MI. Before medical school, she worked as a medical assistant and spent a few months traveling around Southeast Asia and New Zealand. Her favorite part about medical school so far has been pursuing new arts, such as taking a beginners’ piano class and participating in the student-run dance show, biorhythms.

Originally from CT, some say M1 Alec invented the very idea of CAMPing. After taking a couple of gap years, he now spends his time in medical school learning wilderness medicine, dancing to bollywood music and running the trails around campus. His favorite things are being barefoot and leaving no trace.
Nicki Byl is an M1 from Grand Rapids, MI. Prior to med school, she spent a year teaching English in Thailand and then another year taking various jobs to support her nomadic lifestyle, such as taking care of pigs in the Swiss Alps. During med school, she loves her work writing affidavits for asylum seekers as part of the University of Michigan Asylum Collaborative as well as singing in the med student a capella group, Auscultations.
Julia Cartwright is an M1 who graduated from the University of Iowa in 2015 with a BA in Global Health. She spent her gap year working in Denver and hiking as much of the Rockies as possible. Outside of the classroom she can usually be found at an art class, riding her bike or planning her next adventure.
Katie Chilton is an M4 who was raised by wolves in the suburbs of Chicago. She likes music slightly more than people and continues to go to as many concerts and music festivals as possible in medical school. Her academic interests lie in the secret workings of the mind, having worked on consciousness research since starting medical school and hopefully matching into psychiatry next year. Her other passions include hammocking, record players, The Smoker, good hair days and the clear-colored gummy bears.
Steven Davidson is an M1 from Centreville, MI - the heart of Michigan corn country. He worked for several years as a research project manager before fulfilling his lifelong dream of attending Michigan Medical School. In his formative years he became an Eagle Scout and spent a great deal of time enjoying the outdoors. Steven is an avid snowboarder and enjoys backcountry boarding in the Rocky Mountains. He played Rugby in college and his life's ambition is to one day own a falcon.
Duyhoang Dinh is an M1 from Rockville, MD. After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, he spent his summer traveling to 11 countries all around Europe and Asia. While he is involved in the Medical Arts Program Artists' Guild (MAPAG), eMpower mentorship program and Admissions Ambassador program, he enjoys making time for himself through intramural sports and EDM concerts/festivals.
Jackie Kercheval is an M1 from Princeton Junction, NJ (although her family is now in the much more scenic Boulder, CO!!). She studied economics and public health at Tufts and worked at a data analytics consulting firm post grad before obtaining her post-baccalaureate degree. Jackie is happiest when running, specifically when running towards ice cream, and she has loved exploring the many paths in and around Ann Arbor.
Katarina Alajbegovic is an M1 from Ann Arbor who went to undergrad at University of Michigan! She spent a gap year in Chicago working as a family planning health educator through AmeriCorps before returning to Ann Arbor. Boone Marois is an M1 from Traverse City, MI. Before medical school, he worked as a cast technician in an orthopedic surgery clinic and spent time visiting U.S. National Parks and Western Europe. His favorite part of medical school has been working with the M-Home Wellness Pillar to bring fun events, such as weekly yoga, to medical students.
Paris Rollins is an M1 from Honolulu, Hawaii. Though she enjoys participating in Doctors of Tomorrow, Wolverines for Life, Student Council, biorhythms and more, her favorite part of medical school might just be all the free food. Paris loves cooking, traveling, learning and well-told stories. If you see her with headphones on, chances are she's rocking out to something by Pasek and Paul or Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Melinda Song is an M1 from Carmel, IN who went straight through from undergrad to medical school. She is most interested in internal medicine and the impact physicians can have on health care policy. Outside of medical school, her hobbies include cooking, playing tennis and assembling IKEA furniture.
Gracia Vargas is an M2 from Stamford, CT. Before coming to Michigan, she studied Global Affairs (and led Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trips!) at Yale, and taught high school chemistry at a girls’ school in Connecticut. This past year, she has been doing research on opioid prescribing after pediatric surgeries, and she’s super excited to join the class of 2021 for clerkships in the fall.
Madison Miller is an M1 from Syosset, NY. She went to the University of Michigan for undergrad, and is thrilled to be back hoMe for medical school. Before her M1 year, Madison worked as a birth doula, sexual assault crisis counselor and conducted lung cancer research. Her favorite part of medical school so far has been enjoying Ann Arbor with new friends, participating in the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) and the biorhythms show.
Marc Gutierrez is an M1 who grew up in Durban, South Africa. He was born in Ann Arbor and came back to the United States for undergrad at U-M. Marc loves to play the guitar and is always looking for fresh talent to recruit to his up-and-coming band. He is also passionate about the cooperative movement and lives at Escher Cooperative House in the peaceful wilderness that is North Campus.
