Dr. Young received the M.D. degree in 1981, and an M.S. degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis in 1993, both at the University of Michigan. Dr. Young joined the University of Michigan faculty as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine in 1990. He was promoted to his current rank of Professor of Internal Medicine, with tenure, in 2004. Since 2002, Dr. Young has served as Assistant Dean in the Medical School (for Veterans Affairs).
Dr. Young is specialty trained in nephrology and has an outstanding reputation in the areas of hypertension, calcium metabolism, and chronic renal failure. His research interest is in the area of epidemiology and processes of care related to the treatment of chronic kidney disease. He has been the Chief of Staff at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Ann Arbor since 2002. In his role as Assistant Dean, Dr. Young has responsibility for the affiliation relationship between the Medical School and the VAMC involving education, professional training, faculty affairs, and research.
