APEX is designed to enhance the mid-career faculty experience and provide support for them to engage in the next level of career excellence
On Sept. 17, Medical School leadership honored faculty recently promoted to associate professor and associate research scientist at a reception in the A. Alfred Taubman Biomedical Science Research Building.
Director of Faculty and Leadership Development in the Medical School and Michigan Medicine, and Chief Organizational Learning Officer for the University of Michigan Sonya R. Jacobs, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Medical School Marschall S. Runge, M.D., Ph.D., Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Carol R. Bradford, M.D., and Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research George A. Mashour, M.D., Ph.D., congratulated faculty in attendance on reaching an important career milestone.
They also used the celebration to launch the school’s new
Advancing Professional Excellence (APEX) Program for Mid-Career Faculty, designed to enhance the mid-career faculty experience and provide support for them to engage in the next level of career excellence.
Mid-level faculty can participate in many activities through APEX:
- A symposium planned for 2019 that will leverage the knowledge and wisdom of senior and successful faculty to help mid-career faculty reflect upon and engage in best practices to reach mastery level in their fields.
- Opportunities to schedule post-promotion/mid-career meetings with Medical School assistant deans to discuss a path forward in order to rise to the next level of scholarship (across all disciplines), education and clinical care.
- Guidance, support and pilot funding for large-scale grants, including education, financial support, strategy output, project management, administration and editing.
