Stephen V. Gliske initially trained as a physicist, completing masters and doctoral training in the Physics Department of the University of Michigan, and research fellowship at Argonne National Laboratory, outside Chicago, Illinois. This research spanned experimental, computational, and theoretical areas of nuclear physics, focusing on understanding the spin distribution of quarks and gluons inside of protons. As part of the large HERMES and STAR collaborations, Dr. Gliske acquiring and analyzing massive, complex data sets from high energy particle accelerators. In 2013, Dr. Gliske decided to bring these skills to big data research in translational neuroscience, initially returning to Michigan as a fellow in the Neurology department before later joining the research faculty.
Dr. Gliske's research focuses using advanced statistical data analysis and computational modeling to develop translational innovations for epilepsy and sleep disorders. One branch of his research has focused on translation of high frequency oscillations as a biomarker of epileptic tissue, with the goal of improving resective surgery outcomes. Dr. Gliske is also actively researching methods to better analyze sleep data to access sleep quality, sleep disorder severity, and behavioral correlates.
