 Dr. Alon Avidon is a professor of neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is also the director of both the UCLA Sleep Disorders Center and the UCLA Neurology Clinic. He has developed expertise in sleep disorders in neurological disease and sleep disorders in the older patient population. His research interests are geriatrics sleep medicine, insomnia and sleep and fatigue management in residency training. His clinical interests include management of insomnia, sleep disordered breathing, restless legs syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders, and hypersomnia.

His extensive training includes a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and serving as Visiting Professor of Neurology Education in the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Well-respected by his peers, he received the 2014 American Academy of Sleep Medicine Excellence in Education Award, the organization’s highest award.

 He has published more than 100 chapters, letters to the editor, and peer reviewed articles, and co-authored four books: 

 Handbook of Sleep Medicine

 Geriatric Sleep Medicine

 Review of Sleep Medicine

 Atlas of Clinical Sleep Medicine

As Principal Investigator of a National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute, NIH, Sleep Academic Award, he developed key educational modules for teaching sleep topics which have been adopted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
