OCI Tactics and Strategic Principles

OCI aligns its strategic priorities with the strategic priorities of the health system.

OCI promotes the wise use of Michigan Medicine resources in the purchase of equipment, software, and services.

OCI supports UMHS’s single vendor EHR strategy.

OCI adds value through its advice to the governance groups of Michigan Medicine, the CMO, and the CMIO.

OCI encourages standardization of work where applicable, as well as custom solutions when unique situations warrant them.

OCI is dedicated to making Michigan Medicine a high value enterprise.

OCI serves as a robust Clinical Decision Support (CDS) knowledge base and source of advice and guidance to CDS governance.

OCI members maintain an enterprise-level focus while representing unique needs and capabilities of their areas and function as a key point of communication for their constituents.

OCI members endeavor to contribute to and continually gain knowledge of the science of clinical informatics.  Members will collaborate on publications and presentations, and those who are eligible will work to attain board certification.  Members will also demonstrate our successes to regional, national, and international audiences.

OCI assists in crafting information standards and policies and aids in responses to regulatory and compliance matters with an informatics component (such as CMS/TJC responses).

OCI promotes lean processes, improvement of usability and design, making it easy to do the right thing, and maximizing providers’ abilities to use information.  OCI works to decrease actions that misuse effort such as unnecessary alerts, excessive clicking and scrolling, re-entering information already in the system and pertinent decision support.

OCI encourages the development of innovative IT solutions to clinical and operational problems at Michigan Medicine.  This can involve providing feedback, pilot testing, software development, and implementation planning.  Further, OCI helps in the implementation of and the dissemination of knowledge around these new technologies and solutions.

OCI promotes the exchange of information between parties who are authorized to view and access it.

OCI collaborates with HITS staff where provider input is needed.
