Areas of Interest

My research focuses on aminoacyl tRNA synthetases (ARS), a group of enzymes that are responsible for charging tRNA with the appropriate amino acid so they can be used in translation. Several ARS enzymes have been implicated in the peripheral neuropathy Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. My work aims to understand the mechanism of this type of CMT disease, including how such ubiquitously expressed, essential genes can cause such a tissue-specific phenotype. I am also working to understand the potential allelic and locus heterogeneity of ARS-mediated CMT disease.
