Nicholas Franz, PharmD

PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident
PGY-1 Health-System Pharmacy Resident

Biography

Hometown: Mundelein, IL

Pharmacy School: Creighton University

PGY-1 (if current PGY-2): Michigan Medicine

Why did you choose Michigan's residency program? Diverse and deep learning opportunities, substantial preceptor support of resident learning, size and structure of the residency program, and I greatly enjoy living in Ann Arbor!

Research Topic: Impact of obesity on tranexamic acid efficacy in adult patients with major bleeding

Additional Research Topic: Association of delirium rates with benzodiazepine use over time in critically ill adults

Hobbies outside of pharmacy: Craft beer, sports, travel, sitcom re-runs

Favorite Book: The Boys in the Boat - Daniel James Brown

Favorite Movie: Life is Beautiful

Advice for future residents: Take the chance to do what sounds interesting whenever it is available, you won't have the same opportunities for learning and diverse experiences once you're done with residency so make sure you utilize the time to explore

Advice on how to prepare for Michigan winters: Boots, winter coat, snow tires. Oh and layering, that's the key to the major temperature changes when going between buildings.

Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor (and why): Too many to choose a favorite - but Sava's passionfruit creme brulee is the best dish I've had so far

Favorite part about doing residency at Michigan Medicine: Size of the program - big enough that we have lots of different interest and experiences, people are always around and never a dull moment, but no one gets in each other's way of learning or experiencing
