Biography

Dr. Gardner Yost was born in New Jersey and raised in Chicago, IL. His undergrad studies at Cornell University were in Biology, Food Science, and Viticulture and Enology. After competing with the United States Under 23 Men’s National Rowing team, he proceeded to complete a master's degree in Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he primarily studied left ventricular assist device function. He completed his medical degree and sub-track in medical innovation at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During his residency at the University of Michigan, he has continued to pursue his interest in surgical device innovation and has developed a novel sternal closure device with support from the Coulter Translational Partnership. During his academic development time he pursued his interests in surgical device development as the Surgical Innovation Fellow.

Adult Cardiac Surgery

Research Interest
Dr. Yost's primary research focus is on development of improved surgical devices. He has received over $200,000 of funding for devices focused on addressing unmet needs in cardiac surgery and spent his academic development time serving as the Surgical Innovation Fellow. During his ADT time he worked on devices aimed at addressing clinical problems identified in the fields of cardiac, general, pediatric, obstetric, and oncologic surgery.

His additional research interests include evaluation of outcomes in patients with left ventricular assist devices.
