Biography
Dr. Do-Nguyen is an integrated cardiothoracic surgery resident at the University of Michigan. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, she completed her undergraduate studies in Developmental Psychology and Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 2014. Following her studies, she performed translational research in artificial lung device development at the CMU Cardiopulmonary Bioengineering Lab, where she served as lab manager/technician. She completed medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2021, where she continued to be active in research. She graduated as her class president, founder and leader of multiple student groups, a member of Sigma Sigma Phi and Gold Humanism Honors Societies, the recipient of the Dean’s Award, and the recipient of the Galen S. Young, Sr. DO Award for the graduate with exceptional interest and ability in surgery.
She currently serves as the Education Committee Chair of the Thoracic Surgery Residents Association (TSRA).
Clinical Interests
Dr. Do-Nguyen's clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery, specifically aortic disease, and her research interests include mechanisms of thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) development, clinical outcomes, and surgical education and mentorship.
She will be spending 2 years during her Academic Development Time at the Medical University of South Carolina, studying aberrant TGF-b signaling and fibroblast transdifferentiation in TAA development and growth, under the direction of Drs. Jeffrey Jones and Nicolas Pope. She was awarded the Thoracic Surgery Foundation STSA Resident Research Award for her research. She plans to pursue a career in academic aortic surgery.
