Biography
Bahaa Malaeb, MD, FACS, MBA, joined the University of Michigan, Department of Urology in August 2012 after completing a fellowship in Genitourinary Trauma and Reconstructive Urology at the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to that, he finished his residency in urology (2011) and a research fellowship in urologic oncology (2006) at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Malaeb completed his undergrad at the American University of Beirut (1999) and obtained his MD from the same institution (2003).
Dr. Malaeb's clinical focus and practice is in penile and urethral reconstruction, including urologic prosthetics (penile implants, urinary continence devices…). His practice includes evaluating and managing genitourinary trauma in the immediate and delayed setting, peyronies, disease, erectile dysfunction, urethral stricture disease, and urinary incontinence following prostate cancer surgery. His reconstructive practice spans both upper and lower urinary tracts. The typical surgeries he performs include urethroplasties for stricture disease, penile prothesis placement, peyronies disease reconstructive surgery, artificial urinary sphincters, slings and other implantable continence devices. His research interests mirror his clinical practice and involve urinary incontinence in men, urologic prosthetics, and urethral stricture disease.
Dr. Malaeb is very excited to be part of the University of Michigan Department of Urology, as he gets the opportunity to work at one of the nation's leading programs. The opportunities for research and collaboration are unmatched, and the patient population is diverse and challenging. He enjoys working with the residents and is committed to teaching in a clinic and operating room setting.
