For Grand Rounds on May 27, 2021 at 7am our speaker will be the newly elected Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit, who will discuss the need for criminal-justice reform.
An Ann Arbor native and an University of Michigan Law School grad, Eli Savit began his career in private practice in Washington DC, where he represented criminal defendants; victims of domestic violence; asylum applicants; victims of consumer fraud; and special-needs students. He went on to clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He then returned to Detroit and served as senior legal counsel. In this capacity, he led criminal-justice reform and the City’s public-interest litigation.
He ran for and won the position Washtenaw County Prosecutor in November 2020 with the goal of bringing criminal justice reform to our county.
