Program Faculty

It is the philosophy of this program that the quality of role models provided to fellows is one of the primary factors that will determine success in their future careers. Consequently, this fellowship program is committed to hiring exceptional faculty who are capable of serving as outstanding role models for fellows whether they are interested in research, clinical, educational, or administrative careers. Currently there are over 70 faculty working clinically at Michigan Medicine or Hurley Medical Center. All faculty are certified or awaiting certification by the American Board of Pediatrics and the sub-board of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and/or the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Faculty are evaluated by fellows on an annual basis and these evaluations are used to ensure that faculty maintain the program's high standards for faculty performance.

The variety of faculty interests, activities, and experiences is truly an outstanding feature of this program. Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with faculty who have chosen a variety of career pathways, from those with greater emphasis on clinical care to those with substantial involvement in clinical, educational or basic science research. Program faculty are also heavily involved as leaders of local and national PEM & EM medical organizations, as authors and reviewers of pediatric emergency medicine/emergency medicine textbooks and journals, as examiners and item writers for the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and as site surveyors for the ACGME Residency Review Committee(s).
