Dr. Meurer’s focus is on the treatment of acute neurological emergencies, both as a researcher and clinician. In addition, he has experience enrolling patients in acute trials and has served as a local PI for the CLEAR-ER trial (a trial enrolling acute stroke patients in the ED that tested a reperfusion strategy) and also has been active on the acute stroke team at the University of Michigan. He is on the executive team of the Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trials Network NETT. His focus is on acute neurological emergencies, both as a researcher and clinician. He is currently principal investigator for the NINDS clinical trials methodology course (http://neurotrials.training) (R25 NS08824801). His team has designed and implemented a blended, mentored, combination of distance learning and in-person training in the design of clinical research for the neuroscience.
Areas of Interest
My research interests are directed towards improvement of the acute care delivered for stroke patients in the emergency department. This involves studying systems of care and barriers to delivering high quality effective treatment to this population of patients. I also participate in trials investigating new medications for use in acute ischemic stroke.
