CSC Project Wins FIRES Manuscript of the Year

"The New Joint Commission’s Maternal Safety Requirements: A Quantitative Blood Loss Train-the-Trainer Program for Improved Process and Outcomes" describes a training program for OB nurses and staff piloted in the CSC

Cindy Hayes, DNP, MSN-ed, RN, CPAN, CAPA, CNE, Assistant Professor, Loyola University Chicago Marcella Neihoff School of Nursing was concluding her doctorate of nursing at University of Michigan when she connected with the UM Clinical Simulation Center's Deborah Rooney to conduct a training to teach a new protocol for measuring postpartum blood loss. The Quantitative Blood Loss training took place over a four-week period in the summer for OB/OR nurses, surgical techs and a physician.  They simulated hemorrhage scenarios in order to develop the best process for weighing, recording and communicating blood loss back to the team in real time using a QBL Calculator in the electronic health record.  Learn more about the project in the February 2019 issue of The Loop.

The Future Innovators in Research, Education, and Simulation (FIRES) award will be presented virtually The International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) at their meeting January, 19, 2021
